Summer Solstice

The first day of summer is upon us! 2020 will have its longest day of the year on Today, June 20th at 5:43 PM to be exact. This year has so far been exciting, especially with the booming business and wonderful events in Fox Hollow. As we *officially* welcome in summer, I am sure we are all excited for the coming events! With the upcoming Father’s Day BBQ and the grand opening of Augury & Alchemy, there’s lots to enjoy this summer. Now, having mentioned the solstice and what events will follow it, I thought it would be fun to dive into what exactly a solstice is, how it affects our surroundings, and the astronomical (and astrological) significance of it! What exactly is a solstice? A solstice is defined as when the sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky at noon, marked by the longest and shortest days of the year. A solstice happens twice a year; once in summer, once in winter. So, how do these solstices affect us? A solstice is a completion mark. It means spring (or fall for the winter solstice) has finally come to a halt and summer is ready to take full effect on the environment! Visible changes start to happen around us. Flowers get more vibrant, the weather reaches seasonal highs, and sunlight lasts well into the evening. Astrologically, the summer solstice is a beacon of hope. It signifies hope’s new beginning and the growth of mother nature. So, all this being said, let’s enjoy what summer brings! Make sure to keep an eye out for events and take advantage of the sunny days. Happy summer, everyone.
